In just over two weeks, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is about to outsell Vanguard’s lifetime sales in Europe. The figures were confirmed in a report from GamesIndustry.biz, with Modern Warfare II becoming the third best-selling game of 2022. The shooter sits beneath Elden Ring. The Modern Warfare 2019 sequel further jumped to the top spot of the European GSD Top 20, above FIFA 23 in second place and Grand Theft Auto V in third, the latter of which recently saw a decline in sales for the first time in nine years.
Other titles that made the top 20 include Gotham Knights in fourth, Splatoon 3 on the Nintendo Switch in seventh, Paradox’s Victoria 3 in ninth, and A Plague Tale: Requiem coming in at twelfth. Rounding out the top 20 was Gran Turismo 7. With 11.9 million video games sold in Europe throughout October, the report confirmed that sales were up by 1.5% over October 2021, but the physical market has declined by 13%. This downward turn has been attributed to an increase in download sales from the likes of Call of Duty and FIFA.
Modern Warfare II achieved another milestone by topping $1 billion in sales, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the series in ten years. Over the coming weeks, these figures will undoubtedly change, and there’s every chance Modern Warfare II could be knocked from the top spot of the GSD Top 20 with the release of God of War: Ragnarök. Sony Santa Monica’s sequel recently became the highest-rated first-party PS5 game, as reported by GameLuster.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II launched on Oct. 28 across all major platforms, including the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net and Steam.
