Lil Gator Game, the next title to be published by Playtonic Friends, will be released next month, it’s been confirmed.

The 3D platformer will be released on Steam and Switch on December 14. The game is being developed by Megawobble, a new studio set up by indie developer Scott Slucher.

A press release accompanying the announcement referred to the game as “an antidote to troublesome times”.

Playtonic Friends is the publishing arm of Playtonic Games, the UK developer which was founded in 2014 by a team consisting almost entirely of former Rare staff.

Playtonic released Yooka-Laylee and its sequel Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, before announcing in February 2021 that it was launching Playtonic Friends, a new publishing label.

Playtonic has already published Demon Turf, BPM: Bullets Per Minute, A Little Golf Journey and Blossom Tales II, with Lil Gator Game set to be the fifth title to be released under the label.

Speaking to VGC following the announcement of the label, studio head Gavin Price said: “We’re trying to create these friendships that last a long time where we’re still in close contact and helping people long into the future.

“It would be great for us to not only help developers by publishing their current game, but help them as a business over and over again.”

Lil Gator Game will be priced at $19.99 / £16.75 when it’s released, but from December 1 in Europe (Steam and Switch) and December 5 in North America (Switch), there will be a 30% pre-order discount.

This will bring the price down to $13.99 / £11.72.
