Weapon durability, introduced in Breath of the Wild, returns in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Every weapon has a durability and will eventually break. Even the legendary Master Sword loses its energy after enough hits and needs to recharge. Or rather, the version you get midway through the game does. But there is another Master Sword in the game….and no, this doesn’t mean the broken one you have on waking up in the Sky Islands.

This version of the Master Sword is with you at the beginning of the game. It has infinite durability, but it’s taken from you after the first few moments. If only there was a way to smuggle it out of the game’s opening and into the rest of Tears of the Kingdom…Oh wait, there is! And this guide will tell you how to do it with the help of one simple trick!

Visit The In-Isa Shrine And Make A Save

The requirements for this glitch are very simple. You need to unlock the In-Isa Shrine on the starting Sky Island, and you need to have two weapons in your inventory. Any weapons, even basic Tree Branches, will do!

Once you see the "saving" text at the bottom-left of the screen, you're good to go.
Once you see the “saving” text at the bottom-left of the screen, you’re good to go.

To set up, fast travel to the In-Isa Shrine and make a hard save for safety. Then walk into the In-Isa shrine. If you see the game make an autosave, perfect. If not, exit and enter the shrine until the game automatically saves as you enter. Once you have that autosave from the start of the shrine, exit to the main menu.

From the main menu, start a new game. Tears of the Kingdom will warn you that you will overwrite progress if you do this, but don’t worry. You won’t be here long enough for the game to begin deleting your autosaves. Plus, you have that hard save to fall back on.

Position Link roughly here or higher on the stairs, then drop a hard save.

Proceed through the game’s prologue until Zelda is standing at the bottom of the long set of stairs looking at the glowing green spiral. Then, walk back up the same stairs about halfway or three-quarters of the way, facing directly up or down the stairs. Here, make another hard save. Leave this save via the main menu and reload your save from In-Isa Shrine.

Return To The Shrine And Stand In One Particular Place

In In-Isa, break the pillars in the first chamber and pick up a boulder using the Ultrahand ability. Take it a little further into the dungeon, around the corner to the right, and line it up with the vertical line on the wall just before the water ends. You can also grab a second boulder and Ultrahand it to the top of the first one, as the added height seems to help.

The first weapon dropped will be stored in a bizarre spot in memory, ready to be grabbed later (earlier?) when you load your save.

Once the boulders are in place, move Link as close to the wall as possible without him falling off the edge. When he’s in place, open up your inventory with + and go to your Weapons tab. Pick a weapon, equip it, and drop it. Immediately equip a second weapon, then press + twice in rapid succession. Drop your equipped weapon once again. Without closing your menu, go to the system tab and load the hard save you made from the prologue.

Here's the smuggled weapon at the start of the game. Picking this up opens our inventory for the enxt step.

The “MsgNotFound” Unbreakable Master Sword

If you performed the steps correctly, when you load that hard save, the first weapon you dropped should be on the ground right near Link. It might be up the stairs a bit as well. If you can’t find it, don’t worry, you might need to head back to In-Isa and try again. Once you do find the weapon and pick it up, the game will give you the weapon inventory instructional, and, more importantly, access to your inventory.

Now’s a great time to take a look at the weapon you’re about to pull through time. This Master Sword, called the “MsgNotFound” or MNF for short, is a 30 power, infinite durability copy of the Master Sword. It’s also a fully programmed weapon with an in-game model, and it can be dropped…meaning it can be smuggled into another save.

The MNF Master Sword will show up right around where you initially performed the trick when you load into the In-isa shrine

If you’re worried about not performing the trick correctly, make another hard save here. Now, with the MNF equipped, make sure Link is facing up the stairs. Now, go into your inventory and drop the MNF. Equip your second weapon, and press + twice as fast as you can, then drop your equipped weapon. Go over to the System tab in your inventory and load your auto-save from the start of In-Isa Shrine. Go back to the same spot where you lined the boulder or boulders up. If you did the trick correctly you will see the MNF Master Sword just sitting on the floor, waiting to be picked up. Make sure to save once you have it so your work doesn’t go to waste!

It's "Only" a 30 power unbreakable sword that you can't improve with fused items. Even that small caveat has a workaround, though.

Now, you have an unbreakable 30 power Master Sword. It does have two minor downsides, though. It’s no good for breaking rocks, and you can’t fuse items to it. However, it’s still a great weapon, and you’ll have access to it much earlier than Link technically should in Tears of the Kingdom.

What do you think of the “MsgNotFound” Master Sword? What is your favorite weapon to use in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Comment below and let us know!
