Famitsu: “Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth” Bursts Into The Top Spot

Every Thursday here on GL we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan.

This week’s chart covers 1/22-11/28. As always, you can find the full list here.

This week sees a few recently released titles cause a bit of a stir up to the list, which has for a while now been fairly consistent with its titles. Most notably, Ryu Ga Gotaku Studio’s long-running Yakuza franchise returned just last week with a new entry in Ichiban’s story with Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. The game’s PlayStation 5 version not only made it all the way to this week’s number one spot, but surprisingly its PlayStation 4 version sold well enough to make it all the way to third place. Looks like there are still owners of Sony’s now over a decade old console who are still quite active.

Other new releases include Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 for the PS5 and Capcom’s Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy for Switch, both of which made it to this week’s fifth and either spot, respectively. The last new entry that took this week’s second place is Spike Chunsoft’s rogue-like RPG, Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island (quite the title).

Here’s the full Famitsu software sales chart for this week:

  1. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (PS5): 102,940 (NEW)
  2. Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island (Switch): 85,424) (NEW)
  3. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (PS4): 77,134
  4. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5): 21,274 (total 264,888)
  5. Tekken 8 (PS5): 20,516
  6. Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch): 13,628 (total 1,700,970)
  7. Momotaro Electric Railway World (Switch): 11,882 (total 948,818)
  8. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Switch): 10,593 (NEW)
  9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch): 7,174 (total 5,687,955)
  10. Minecraft (Switch): 5,526 (total 3,430,270)

Additionally, the list for hardware sales is as follows (console families are grouped together for simplicity):

NSW: 49,945

PS5: 46,435

XBS: 3,905

PS4: 655

3DS: 15

A slight dip this week with neither the PlayStation 5 nor Nintendo Switch consoles crossing the 50K mark, which thus far has been a regular occurrence. When comparing to this exact week last year, the PS5 had sold over 60k units, and the Switch over 50k. This shouldn’t be any worrying indication for the future sales of these systems, far from it—if anything the Switch’s continued success week after week in being able to stride in tow with Sony just goes to show the popularly of the console, even after all these years. And Sony’s PS4 still being sold in the hundreds (sometimes thousands) each week even after being more than a decade on the market should bode well for the longevity of the PS5.

Have you bought any of these titles from Famitsu’s chart? Let us know in the comments below!
