Famitsu: Newly Released “Another Code: Recollection” Makes This Week’s Top 5

Every week here on GL we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan.

This week’s chart covers 1/15-1/21. As always, you can find the full list here. 

While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues its strong sales number, bringing it to this week’s top spot, a newly released remake collection is this week’s noteworthy title. Another Code: Recollection by Arc System Works brings the two adventure games by developer Cing, Another Code: Two Memories (known as Trace Memory in NA) from the Nintendo DS, and Another Code: R — Journey into Lost Memories from the Wii, to the Nintendo Switch with revamped visuals, new voice acting, and a slew of extra features. Though neither titles sold incredibly well, with Two Memories listed as the 123rd best-selling game in Japan for 2005, its impressive first week with over 15,000 physical units sold bodes well for the future of the series. Confirming once again the attachment rate and success remasters and remakes have on the Switch.

The rest of the list pans out more-or-less the same, with many of the same titles from the weeks prior making their appearance. Albeit in different positions like Pikmin 4 dropping all the way to the tenth spot with a 26% decrease in physical units sold from last week.

6. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch): 5,980 (total 7,673,551)
7. Minecraft (Switch): 5,788 (total 3,424,744)
8. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (Switch): 5,670 (total 5,278,988)
9. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (Switch): 5,581 (total 534,841)
10. Pikmin 4 (Switch): 5,438 (total 1,161,358)

Additionally, the list for hardware sales is as follows (console families are grouped together for simplicity):

The PS5 saw a bump this week with a notable 20,000+ consoles sold from the week prior, which when seeing Spider-Man 2 at this week’s top spot makes me think most of these must be from the recently released bundle that packed in the game with the Slim version of the console.
