Microsoft’s UK arm has announced its Black Friday gaming deals, including a significant Xbox Series S discount.

Having knocked $50 off the price of the console in the US and $60 off in Canada, Microsoft has cut the Xbox Series S price by £60 in the UK, from £249.99 to £189.99.

Microsoft’s Black Friday offers are now live until November 28, and the £189.99 Xbox Series S deal is being matched by Amazon.

Elsewhere, Microsoft is offering 36% off Black, White, Red, Blue and Volt Yellow Xbox controllers, which have been reduced from £54.99 to £34.99.

The Series S price drop, while temporary, may lead to further comparisons with the PlayStation 5, which in August received a price increase in most of the world (with the US being a notable exception).

Following Sony’s announcement, the UK arms of both Microsoft and Nintendo told VGC that they weren’t currently planning to raise console prices.

However, Microsoft‘s head of gaming Phil Spencer then suggested last month that Xbox consoles, games and/or subscriptions may increase in price in the future.

“I think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things,” Spencer said at WSJ Tech Live, “but going into the holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices.”

He added: “We’ve held price on our console, we’ve held price on games […] and our subscription. I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever. I do think at some point we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things.”
