Naughty Dog has confirmed that the Playstation 5 will remain their primary platform following the release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC, and the eventual launch of The Last Of Us Part I. In an official Playstation Blog post, Naughty Dog’s Vice President Christian Gyrling announced that while the PS5 would remain their “primary platform,” the studio “saw the possibility of bringing our games to PC as a great chance to reach a new massive, worldwide audience.”
“When considering what to debut on PC with, we looked through our catalog and decided the beautiful, globetrotting stories of the Uncharted series felt like a natural fit to introduce to players all around the world,” the statement continues.
Gyrling then elaborated on why the studio felt it best to release the fourth instalment in the long-running franchise first, ahead of the first three games. He said that “while Nathan Drake’s first three adventures from the PlayStation 3 console still stand the test of time narratively, they would require a major overhaul visually to stand-up to modern PC releases and the expectations players may have.”
Gyrling described the two games as the “perfect candidates” for the switch over to PC. He added that the studio wanted to “ensure we were providing players with a worthy value, and so we bundled both experiences together, offering an overall suite of PC features and customization options to suit as many players as possible.”
As mentioned earlier, a PC port for The Last Of Us Part I remains in development, and the blog post from Naughty Dog is light on new details. Gyrling reiterated that the port was “in development for PC,” adding that they had “a lot to learn about bringing our games to PC.”
He continues with saying that the studio wanted to “ensure we were providing players with a worthy value, and so we bundled both experiences together, offering an overall suite of PC features and customization options to suit as many players as possible.”
