Developer Nihon Falcom recently unveiled an exciting new project: a brand-new game in the Tokyo Xanadu action role-playing game series. This announcement comes as the franchise celebrates its 10th anniversary. Specific details, like consoles and release dates, remain under wraps, but updates are promised soon.
The upcoming game marks a significant step in the series, introducing a fresh setting. Unlike the original Tokyo Xanadu, set in Tokyo, this new title explores the city of Kyoto. It narrates the adventures of young individuals in the mystical realm known as “Xanadu.” Being a “completely new title,” it features an entirely rebuilt game system.
Falcom’s announcement came with a translation, as per Gematsu, emphasizing the game’s uniqueness. Fans are encouraged to follow the official website for the latest updates. Additionally, an announcement trailer and key art for the project are available for fans to check out.
In related news, Tokyo Xanadu eX+, an enhanced version of the initial release with added story and gameplay elements, is set to hit the Nintendo Switch in the West this June. This version follows its previous release on PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam.
Originally a PlayStation Vita game, Tokyo Xanadu eX+ features action-packed combat inspired by the Zwei and Ys series. Players can switch between characters mid-combat, and each has unique abilities. Additionally, a social simulation aspect allows the protagonist, Kou, to build relationships with other characters.
Falcom confirms that the Switch version will include all DLCs from previous platforms. Aksys Games will handle the revamped localization. The control scheme, based on the PlayStation 4 version, has been tailored for the Switch experience.
As the gaming community eagerly awaits more information, the excitement for this new chapter in the Tokyo Xanadu universe continues to build.
