Krafton, the South Korean video game holding company behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, has acquired The Ascent developer Neon Giant.

In an earnings release on Friday, Krafton also revealed that the newly acquired Swedish studio is currently working on an open-world FPS.

Neon Giant’s debut game, cyberpunk-themed action RPG The Ascent, was released for Xbox consoles and PC last July before coming to PlayStation systems this March.

VGC’s 4/5-star Ascent review said the title had some of the best world design we’d seen in a game.

It concluded: “When you break it down to its basic components, The Ascent doesn’t do anything that particularly pushes the genre forward in any way. But when it looks as phenomenal as this and is as thoroughly entertaining to play, it doesn’t have to.

“Its fantastically detailed world design and its incredible lighting make it one of the most visually stunning games of its type we’ve ever played, and while its plot and dialogue can feel like trying to break through diamond at times, the exploration and combat that flow around it make everything else a real joy.”

Krafton’s collection of independent game development studios also includes PUBG Studios (PUBG: Battlegrounds), Striking Distance Studios (The Callisto Protocol) and Unknown Worlds (Subnautica).

The Callisto Protocol, the upcoming horror game from Dead Space creator Glen Schofield, will be released for consoles and PC on December 2.
