Steam is doing very well at the moment. With plenty of great AAA titles and indie games, as well as a bunch of PlayStation ports over the past year, Steam just hit its highest ever concurrent user count. As of the today, the record is now set at 30,032,005 users.
The data comes from SteamDB, which tracks Steam users online and in games. At 2:20 PM UTC today the service hit this new high, surpassing its past record of 29.99 million on Apr. 3 earlier this year. Steam recently added a refreshed charts page, which allows us to see what games made up part of this new concurrent user record. The Most Played chart shows Counter Strike: Global Offensive at the top spot with a peak player count of 1,050,184 today. This is followed by Dota 2 and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS adding a combined extra 1.2 million users.
Steam’s library is extensive, so this new record comes from the millions of people playing its thousands of games. The Steam Deck handheld has brought the service to a new market, enabling handheld gaming on the go without sacrificing PC quality. We recently heard our first sales figures of the system, selling over a million units with more orders left to fulfil.
There have been plenty of great game releases this year to keep Steam users occupied. The year opened with Elden Ring, with summer bringing Steam the hugely successful Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered from Sony. This week had its own couple of big releases, with the critically acclaimed JRPG Persona 5 Royal, as well as PlayStation’s Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection. Despite being such a high profile launch, Uncharted actually had the lowest release day player count of any PlayStation release on PC.
